Scandinavian Shops

We have had requests concerning where one can buy Scandinavian products outside of Scandinavia. Therefore we have compiled a list of those shops in the Halifax area as well as some online sites offering Scandinavian goods by mail order. If you would like us to add a link for a shop in the Nova Scotia area or another online site, please email us.

In the Halifax area:

  • Pete's Frootique at the Bedford location stock some of Abba's products (Sweden) across from the fresh fish counter and they include Matjes herring fillets (Nordic style in oil); Herring in dill marinade; Herring in marinade with onion and carrots; Herring in sour cream; Herring matjes;Whole anchovy; Anchovy filets; and two kinds of Kalles kaviar. Pete also stocks Siljans Crisp Bread (Knäcke Brot, Knäcke Bröd) and Danish jams and is working on getting Mills and Kavlis kaviar. So feel free to pop in and see Pete - he is a fantastic and friendly fellow!

  • There is also a gift shop located in the Historic Properties area of the Halifax Waterfront called the Harbour Swan that deals in Scandinavian goods.

  • For delicious food visit the "Cheapside Cafe" located at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS). It is run by Unni Simonsen who is Norwegian and she also has a catering business on Quinpool Street that sells wonderful pastries.

Some online shops selling Scandinavian goods:

  • Ingebretsen's - an old world marketplace of fine Scandinavian gifts, foods, needlework and clothing. This is an excellent web site that has virtually anything Scandinavian that you may be looking for. Well worth a browse!

  • Ugly Duckli distributes exclusive Nordic gift articles specializing in North American and Scandinavian markets including a collection of the old fashioned braided Christmas hearts in beautiful designer packages.

  • Nordic Folklore Paintings is the official web site to view and purchase prints of the artwork of Sharon Aamodt. Sharon's art, with it's loose, intuitive style is a celebration of her Scandinavian roots. From beautiful Fjord horses to elaborate costumes, you will surely find something of interest. Nordic Folklore prints are also available for customers with retail businesses that would like to carry them.

  • Skaldaspillar Publications offers exceptional, quality books on the history, culture, landscape and crafts of Norway.

  • Sverige Online offers a mix of Swedish and Scandinavian products like typical Swedish food, snus, candy and gifts. This web shop has been launched to cater to the needs of Swedes abroad and anyone who has an appreciation of fine Swedish food and products.

  • ScanSelect - Swedish and Norwegian food specialist offering products such as cheese, chocolate, fish, bakery products and preserves.

  • The Danish Shop - the Danish art and Christmas shop.

  • Swedish Traditions offer tasteful culinary gifts from the Kingdom of Sweden. They offer a culinary taste of and a look into the Swedish spirit and their gift boxes are packages containing the spices and flavours that the Swedes traditionally use in the food they eat during their festivals, the ritual that goes along and the history behind it all. It's a taste of Swedish traditions that is perfect to give away to friends abroad, or to enjoy yourself. The gift boxes contain beside the different spice mixes a folder with recipes, songs, Swedish history and easy to use instructions on how to cook and enjoy the traditional delicious courses.

  • Scandinavian Marketplace sells Scandinavian gifts from Scandinavia.

  • Lydbog.dk is a website that offers a wide variety of audio books in Danish and they also have a newsletter service available.

  • The Northerner is the world's largest Scandinavian shop.

  • Scandinavian Stitches sells cross stitch, hardanger and stamped embroidery kits from Monks & Kattens of Sweden and Cewec of Denmark.

  • Wikstroms' Scandinavian Food and Gifts - Scandinavian delicacies & gourmet foods delivered right to your door.

  • Olsen's Scandinavian Foods is located in the Scandinavian part of Seattle and has been a supplier of quality merchandise since 1960. A large part of the foods are prepared according to authentic, traitional Norwegian recipes and most food products are imported directly from Scandinavia. From the site, you can order from a selection of food and gifts online and they will deliver it to you.

  • ICA I Världen is located in Täby, north of Stockholm, and specializes in providing Swedes abroad with food and products that they may miss from home.

  • Moose Collection is built around the idea of manufacturing the moose design in many different typical Swedish materials such as cast iron, crystal and linen for example. The moose in woods is manufactured by the hand of the designer and artist, Johan Rosenlind, at Haverdalsstrand, Sweden and Skeppshult foundry in Sweden is manufacturing the moose in cast iron. The idea to moose collection emanate from a previous art project now further developed into a Swedish design product and souvenir. The brand moose collection represents Swedish craft man ship and quality equal with the concept of "Made in Sweden".

  • Hjemve.dk offers a wide selection of Danish items in their online store such as Danish food, cakes, candy, Danish books, magazines, DVDs and CDs and they ship worldwide.

  • Support Our People - Scandinavian Pride feature a lot of country flag and crest promotional products such as ribbons, dog tags, mouse pads, license plates and frames that allow you to show your support for your favourite Scandinavian country. They accept individual, wholesale and resale orders. Worth checking out for the really great designs!
